Alzheimer's disease is a progressive brain disorder that destroys memory, thinking skills, and the ability to carry out daily tasks. It is the most common cause of dementia, affecting over 6.7 million Americans age 65 and older. The disease is characterized by amyloid-beta plaques and tau tangles in the brain.
